Oatmeal Cookies (Melba Jackson)

1 cup butter
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp. vanilla
1 ½ cup flour
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
3 cups oats
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup raisins
¼ cup water
In large skillet, melt butter; add oats and “fry” stirring constantly until oats are golden. Remove from heat and stir in raisins. Transfer to large bowl. While this cools stir together dry ingredients, except sugar. Add sugars to oat-raisin mixture; mixing well. Stir in flour mixture and nuts. Beat eggs, vanilla and water into oat mixture. Bake at 350° F for 10-12 minutes.
